Among the dozens of gorgeous gowns on the red carpet last week at the Costume Institute Gala, the most photographed was Madonna’s universally lampooned Louis Vuitton Puss-’n-Boots-plus-bunny-ears get-up.

But this seemingly ill-conceived outfit illustrates a modern truism for stars competing for attention: good fashion goes in the prestigious glossies, but bad fashion goes everywhere.
