Rockstress Avril Lavigne makes a wish at the release party for her new album The Best Damn Thing at New York hotspot the Box on Tuesday. At the pretty-scary-in-pink goth party, the singer told PEOPLE how she keeps her marriage to Deryck Whibley strong as she prepares for a promotional tour: “We just make sure that when I have my two weeks off he has his two weeks off.”

Avril Lavigne has suggested that Britney Spears shouldn’t blame the paparazzi for her recent problems because the media is such a core part of being famous - the problems really lie closer to home.

Avril said recently: “What’s happened to Britney is all down to who she is as a person. If you want a piece of this business you have to be able to deal with it.”

“You can’t complain about the pressures, the paparazzi, the madness because that’s the job.”

She added that Britney must have chosen to party in the public eye because she likes to go out drinking too but “no one really gets to know”.

It should not come as a surprise that her new album, is titled “The Best Damn Thing”, Sk8r chick Avril Lavigne confessed to MTV she’s usually drunk when writing her best songs. When she wrote her first single from her third album, ‘The Best Damn Thing’, she was drunk.

“This album was so much fun to record. We would order take out everyday and just pig out. We’d be drinking. One of my best songs, ‘Girlfriend’ was created when I was totally wasted.”

From Canadian skate parks to French fashion shows, teen-punk brat Avril Lavigne is the April 2007 cover girl for Britain’s Arena magazine.

On her changed ways: “I was such a tomboy, running around, getting in fights, hanging out with guys. I look back and laugh as I realize how much I’ve grown up. God I was such a ****.”
